Outdoors and Active Competition

This summer Brenscombe Outdoor Centre are running a competition open to all schools accross the south. The prize is a fantastic Low and High Ropes Course session for a whole class.

With the olympics fast approaching, and the country thinking about sport and fitness, we wanted to do something to celebrate. To enter our competition you will need to get creative and take a photograph with the theme 'Outdoors and Active in 2012'. Entries should be posted onto our Facebook page with your school's name, contact name and telephone number.* Entries close on 1st July 2012 at 12pm.

*Please make sure you have the necessary permissions to post images of the people in your photopraph. The prize for the best photograph is a three hour ropes course session for up to 40 children to be redeemed at a mutually convenient time before 31st October 2012. Participants must be 8 years old or over. Entries only from schools and colleges.

We have orgainsed dates for our summer adventure days for the coming year. This year participants have the option of booking half days or full days, making things a lot more flexible.

Mondays

Climbing Wall, Low Ropes, Initiative Challenges 0930-1230

Air Rifles, Pioneering, Archery 1300-1600

Tuesdays 31 July and 07 August

Orienteering 0930-1230 Bushcraft 1300-1600

Wednesdays 01 and 08 August

Canoeing and Raft Building 0930-1230 or 1300-1600 at Wareham Quay

Thursdays 02 and 09 August

Rock Climbing and Abseiling 0930-1230 or 1300-1600 at Dancing Ledge

Fridays

Low and High Ropes 0930-1230 or 0930-1600 at Burnbake Ropes Course

Full days cost £34 per person, or £18 per half day

Suitable for ages 8 to 18
Children must be ready to start and be collected at the stated times to avoid delays for the rest of the participants.
Sessions will be shared with up to 10 people per instructor
Payment by cash or cheque with guarantee card

Wedding Reception Venue

In the last couple of years we have been hosting wedding receptions and found we are getting more and more enquiries. We can offer catering, accommodation for up to 86 guests, function room and marquee hire. We have also provided guest entertainment in the form of team games and archery during previous parties.

Our attractive stone buildings provide an excellent atmosphere for hosting parties.

The Big Jurassic Classroom

In the coming year we are proud to be involved in The Big Jurassic Classroom project.

Our Olympic Values Activity Day combines the Jurassic Coast with the seven Olympic and Paralympic values to create a fun, action packed day that your children will love.

The day starts and finishes at the National Trust car park in Langton Matravers. Following a briefing from our experienced instructors the group will walk down to the stunning Dancing Ledge where they will discuss the history and geology of the quarry. The group will go on a fossil hunt and complete some team tasks before stopping for lunch.

The afternoon sees the group taking part in rock climbing and abseiling, getting up close and personal with geology in a fun way.

The day will hit on all 7 Olympic and Paralympic values in a way that children will understand and enjoy. Rates are very reasonable at £26 (ex VAT) per person based on a minimum group size of 8.

Paddle Power

This season we will be introducing Paddle Power awards to our Watersports sessions for 8 to 15 year olds. These awards are designed as a fun introduction and progression to paddle sports. Each of the five awards has a certificate of completion. For over 14’s, star awards are available. We can provide 1 to 3 star in canoe and kayak. 1 and two star are generic awards, taken in both canoe and kayak. 3 star is a discipline specific award taken in the craft of your choice. These are excellent benchmarks for paddlers of all ages and are pre-requisites for entering into the coaching scheme. Those aged 14-15 can chose between the two schemes.
Paddlepower Start (level 1) A basic introductory award course which can be completed on our taster sessions. Paddlepower Passport (levels 2 to 5) Four progressive levels based on 24 topics which can be grouped into Safety Awareness, Paddling Skills, Varied Experiences, and Supporting Knowledge. A two day course, participants must have first completed Paddle Power Start or the old style one star before attending this course. Paddlepower Discover (levels 6 to 9) This follows on from Passport with a further 4 levels to take the young paddler to equivalent of 2 star standard.
Paddlepower Explore (levels 6 to 9, plus additional topics) Three different levels take the paddler on an extensive journey exploring the great variety Paddlesport, with topics focused on participation in events and journeys in the competitive and non-competitive disciplines. Paddlepower Excel (levels 10 to 12, Bronze, Silver and Gold) Three levels to test the paddler on all elements of paddle sport including being responsible for self and others, participation in journeys, coaching sessions, training, events/competitions in a variety of disciplines, background knowledge of the sport; access, rules, environmental, nutrition and goal setting. Paddlepower start can be combined with our short taster sessions. Passport, Discover, Explore and Excel can be provided in tailor made courses for your group. Paddlepower Passport is roughly equivalent to the old one star and Discover, the old two star.

The Toppaz is Back!!

The return of the Toppaz has added another great activity choice to our Ropes Course. The Course itself can be used for an amazing Learning environment or a Thrilling Adrenaline experience. If you are interested in the Adrenaline side of the course these element might be what you are looking for:

Power Fan- A machine that mimics a parachute jump. From a height of fifty foot you take that leap of faith, as you free fall towards the ground a power fan kicks in to slow your descent for a smooth landing, but not before you feel the breeze in your hair and the butterflies in your stomach.

The Toppaz- This is a another leap of faith device but designed for a different experience. From the top of the tallest Pine tree you walk out on a platform to the edge and get a dramatic view of you peers 50 foot below you, then adopt the swan dive position and lean forward the machine will soon kick in giving you a gentle descent to the floor.

The Zip Wire- The 300 foot zip wire runs from the tall pine trees at the back of the Site over the low ropes challenge course and down to the drive. Where a bungee cord slows you down from 30 mph to 0 in a matter of seconds. A great ride that you will want to do over and over again.
