Raft Building for schools and educational groups at Brenscombe Outdoor Centre

Since opening in 1992 thousands of students have visited Brenscombe with the majority of schools returning to us each year. Some enjoy residential programmes lasting from two to four nights, or longer, while others come for just a half or full day. All our visitors love our local environment and the range of outdoor activities on our doorstep. Choose from the following types of programme:

Why choose Brenscombe?

Qualified staff instructs on the high ropes course

Brenscombe Outdoor Centre is a long-established centre with a strong team of permanent staff, who are supported by experienced seasonal staff. All of our staff are DBS checked.

Our exciting range of activities and excellent facilities (which continue to be developed with an ongoing reinvestment plan) combine with our staff team to ensure Brenscombe provides:

  • Unique packages tailored to your requirements
  • Team work and social skills development through out the programme
  • A moderate capacity so that we deal with people, not numbers
  • The highest levels of instruction, tutoring and safety
  • An exceptional service to our guests by listening to their requirements
  • A safe learning environment in a centre full of character

Small or large groups

Activities for large or small groups

Brenscombe can run programmes for schools with a minimum group size of eight to a whole year group or more! For specialist programmes we can work with smaller groups. On our unique farm site we can offer residential accommodation for up to 172 people. This is spread across indoor beds in several variously-sized converted farm buildings, including the farmhouse, as well as camping spaces in large bell tents.

From primary to tertiary

We enjoy sharing the outdoors with people, especially students and teachers, whether it be from a canoe, a cliff top or the picnic benches outside our dinning room. We welcome students from year 5 all the way through to university groups but we can be flexible on the minimum age. If you are considering bringing a class of younger pupils please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Catering and facilities

All meals are cooked in our kitchen

Providing our students with generous portions of quality food is a priority. Our full-time chef serves delicious meals, often cooked from locally-sourced ingredients. With notice we can cater for special diets.

The centre offers a range of other facilities, including a conference/games room and flexible spaces that can be used as classrooms or common rooms. Outside we have a two acre games field and a camp fire area.

First class support

Providing first class support at Brenscombe Outdoor Centre

From your initial enquiry right through to your departure we will always strive to provide an excellent level of support. Our relatively small staff team has many years experience working with groups of students and adults, ensuring that a professional and efficient level of service is always provided.

Bespoke programmes

Choose from a range of Brenscombe activities that can be combined with your own teacher-led activities, classroom session and excursions. We also provide evening activities.

Our helpful sales staff will then be able to create a bespoke programme for your pupils or staff team to ensure maximum enjoyment, learning and personal experiences.

Student supervision

Staff supervise all outdoor activities at the centre

Brenscombe staff are responsible for supervising students during activity sessions run by the centre.

During all other times including meal times and overnight, on all types of programmes, your school staff will be responsible for the young people. Nominated duty staff will be available on site overnight and during the evenings.

I am happy to recommend Brenscombe to any teacher considering bringing a group on a residential visit. The standards of accommodation, catering, care and warmth of welcome were more than we dared hope for. In nine years of residential visits this is the centre which received by far the most positive reaction from our children and staff.
